D+ Hosts
[00:00:00] Dan: Welcome back to another meeting of the gold key adventurers society. My name is Dan Leonard and joining me this week in the studio is Heather straight. And Mr. Jeff Williams,
[00:00:11] Heather: Ooh.
[00:00:12] Dan: We're as happy as can be. And our show as always is brought to you by Key to the World Travel. Key to the World Travel is A full service travel agency, specializing in theme parks, cruising, and destinations around the world head to www.keytotheworldtravel.com For more details and to no obligation quote on the vacation of a lifetime. For most of us out there, it's right around spring break time, and that's the perfect time to chill and catch up on some quality Disney plus binge time.
[00:00:44] Jeff: plus.
[00:00:47] Dan: Once again, it's been a little while since we've had a good Disney pleasant show sash before we can vege out, we've got some travel news to get to starting with.
It seems like they just rolled up the construction tarps at the [00:01:00] Walt Disney world's Polynesian village resort, but there's some more big changes coming. They've just announced that the Lua will not be returning to the Cove ever.
[00:01:11] Heather: not happy,
[00:01:12] Dan: No, and they're going to be using that area for a shiny new DVC tower.
[00:01:17] Heather: which
[00:01:18] Jeff: I'm happy about
[00:01:19] Heather: a little bit familiar. I'm happy about it too, because they, the, they don't have any one or two bedroom villas at poly right now. And that's that whole new buildings. The tower is going to be all one and two bedroom villas, which is great. It needs it, but it looks shockingly similar to recently the axed project over on the other side of the seventies lagoon there, anyone else think.
[00:01:45] Jeff: as soon as I saw it, but upon looking back at the pictures, it's not all that similar. It has that sort of arts and craft vibe,
[00:01:53] Heather: Yeah, it feels like they said, Hey architects, we had you design this building and we're not going to be [00:02:00] using that. So can you take those plans and put a Polynesians plan? Spin on them?
[00:02:07] Jeff: put more beams in it
[00:02:08] Heather: Yeah,
[00:02:09] Dan: Yeah, but the problem is it's not really Polynesian enough or maybe it's just too modern. I don't know what it is, but it doesn't fit to me the feel of the rest of the
[00:02:18] Heather: it doesn't feel like it blends in very well. I agree.
[00:02:22] Jeff: Like they like towers sitting right next to a building. It doesn't mean.
[00:02:26] Heather: Doesn't match at all.
[00:02:27] Dan: Yeah. Which, and there's no reason why they couldn't insert. They could have done things I think, but I think the other. The other question I have about putting that great big block of DVC rooms. There is how is it going to affect the overall super chill vibe of the poly?
Cause if you've got that many more rooms full of that many more people, it's going to take that nice quiet resort.
[00:02:51] Jeff: like there's stuff to do over in that area. So it does seem like it gets got its own pool looks like, And
it had [00:03:00] outdoor dining and stuff. So I think it'll absorb
[00:03:02] Dan: this is not gonna,
[00:03:03] Jeff: crowd and it's not all that big, but I was looking at I pulled up Google Google maps, Google earth.
and looked at that's a huge footprint over there.
If they take that, There's a lot of land anyway. And then when they take the Lu our Cove thing out. That can be a pretty substantial building and still have
[00:03:22] Heather: between that last poly building. And when you, before you get to the wedding chapel area, it's a lot of
[00:03:29] Jeff: One part of it's water. Cause there's that bridge tributary thing, but that's a pretty big footprint. I have that thought too. If they're adding, what is it like 300 something rooms. It's going to be pretty big,
[00:03:42] Dan: No this
[00:03:44] Jeff: it's like when they added Cardone village, everybody thought that it doesn't, it didn't make jumbo house feel more crowded to me.
[00:03:53] Heather: that's true because they've it's got its own restaurants. It's got its own pool and it's really well, at least with [00:04:00] Cordani village and Jambo house. It's you got to take a shuttle to get between the two
[00:04:05] Jeff: where this is more like
[00:04:06] Heather: you'll be able to walk.
[00:04:07] Jeff: what they needed to do is put in a second and possibly third trader
[00:04:12] Heather: Yes. Yeah. If they have some out some cool outdoor dining, I would love that in the
And it's in a great spot to walk right next door to grand Floridian to hit up in Shannon rose. That's not so bad. And it needed those bigger spaces. The Polly never, it has some sweets, but those are the hotel level suites, which are incredibly expensive.
It didn't have the one and two bedroom villas that I particularly love with the DVC properties.
[00:04:42] Dan: that's true. It's hard to fit you in a family of five into the Polynesian
[00:04:46] Heather: you can fit them in those studios, but it's still crowded a one bedroom and a two bedroom. And I believe there are going to be some bumps, a few grand villas, the three bedroom it as well, which will [00:05:00] be, those could be pretty spectacular.
[00:05:02] Jeff: at this artist rendering right now. It looks like a restaurant up top
[00:05:06] Heather: Oh, I love a rooftop restaurant.
[00:05:09] Jeff: yeah, that could be awesome for fireworks viewing or something. It looks like. The restaurant or something up top with maybe open air part of that. And then all along the bottom, out the backside towards the lake, there looks like patio dining or seating of some sort.
[00:05:26] Heather: And it needs a pool. I'm hoping that they're putting in a
[00:05:28] Jeff: Yeah. There's there show a pool. with people in it.
[00:05:31] Heather: Perfect.
[00:05:32] Jeff: it has like an infinity waterfall edge looks cool. I'm excited for that. I liked . I liked the, I lived in Hawaii for a brief bit and I liked that stuff, but there, the storyline part was done with auntie and the kids and
[00:05:47] Dan: Yeah, that needed to be fixed
[00:05:49] Jeff: but I liked to fire dancing in the hula of
[00:05:51] Heather: And the food was great.
[00:05:53] Jeff: Food was awesome. The drinks were good, but the, was a one and done for me
[00:05:58] Dan: It'd be nice if they [00:06:00] could find a way to reimplement it, that just because of the history behind it. And just because of the, the way it fits into the culture, but like that show, they brought over cultural school from from Hawaii. And that lady who ran it and she was the little old lady who made the flowers in the lobby for the longest time, she was like, yeah, she did die.
But she was like a really big deal in the world of preserving Polynesian culture
It'd be nice to see the
[00:06:30] Jeff: Yeah, maybe they'll bring some of the stuff like they could easily have fire dancers that were likes treatments, fear, and I'd love it. If they had a lot more of that culture stuff there, maybe they will, we shall see.
Or
[00:06:41] Dan: Keep it.
[00:06:42] Jeff: put a bunch of IP in there and call it done.
[00:06:45] Dan: So that's my worries me, is it that like, are all of these towers, that they put in places going to start turning into just a cookie cutter thing, is it needs to maintain these unique flavors
[00:06:57] Heather: Yeah. And honestly, I hope [00:07:00] something, another hotel goes up where they were putting reflections, maybe come up with a different name, but the idea of
[00:07:08] Jeff: reflections, a Disney lodge and
[00:07:11] Heather: the the idea of a modern yet something that fits in with the wilderness lodge and the Fort, there was a really intriguing to me.
[00:07:21] Dan: or backup and go a completely different direction? Because way back decades ago, they wanted to essentially do the star cruiser there, but it was going to be a wild west town
[00:07:30] Heather: Oh
[00:07:31] Jeff: Yes, please.
[00:07:32] Dan: immersive wild west experience with.
[00:07:36] Heather: Count me in.
[00:07:38] Dan: That's what I'm still
[00:07:39] Heather: would be
[00:07:39] Jeff: it like Westworld where you can really kill them.
[00:07:43] Dan: That's what I've been missing for my watch Disney world experience.
[00:07:47] Heather: Hey,
[00:07:47] Dan: None of these
[00:07:48] Heather: just brought
[00:07:48] Jeff: kids, you guys hit
[00:07:49] Heather: to Disney
[00:07:50] Jeff: gotta go kill them in
[00:07:51] Dan: I wonder how much do you have charts on that?
[00:07:54] Jeff: quite a bit.
Gorgeous. You just shot me. [00:08:00]
[00:08:02] Dan: I don't know, I don't know how that would go over. Reason event or a recent event that darn near killed at least one man and possibly many more. It sounds like there was a close call between a cruise ship and a tornado somewhere.
[00:08:14] Heather: this footage?
[00:08:16] Jeff: It did not.
[00:08:17] Dan: Watching it. Right now.
[00:08:19] Heather: is crazy. It's I th I think it's a carnival ship, but it was leaving new Orleans and sailing down the Mississippi river while that intense storm was going through new Orleans. And there were some folks who were just out getting a little video of the ship leaving and they kept capture the tornado. You got to watch the video. I'm sure it was much further away from the ship than it appears on this video.
[00:08:48] Jeff: footage though, in the lightning hits and you see the funnel.
[00:08:52] Dan: Yeah.
[00:08:52] Jeff: a carnival fun ship.
[00:08:55] Dan: Yeah.
[00:08:55] Heather: Imagine being on the deck of that ship and watching that go [00:09:00] down. I don't know whether I would've been terrified or excited about how cool
[00:09:04] Jeff: Yeah, it's gone along sideways and that's so cool that I've always wanted to see a tornado while not getting hurt,
[00:09:13] Heather: I am just not a fan of tornadoes.
[00:09:16] Jeff: to pick up my brother and some other friends of mine shortly after a tornado had devastated unseal, Alabama. And that I don't ever want to be in one after seeing that it looked the same,
[00:09:29] Heather: No, thank you.
[00:09:31] Dan: When I was a kid, we had one go down the next block behind our house and that's the closest I've come, but it was an Ohio tornado. So those aren't, those don't get too big.
[00:09:39] Heather: Not what they'd grow down there.
[00:09:41] Jeff: Just everything looked like bombs and cars were just, it was rush hour. So cars were stacked on top of each other.
[00:09:49] Heather: Oh, yikes. No, thanks.
[00:09:52] Jeff: Total carnage
[00:09:53] Heather: The headlines on this are a little misleading making you think that this ship just narrowly missed being hit by the [00:10:00] tornado. Although, it could have turned that direction
[00:10:02] Jeff: was the ship is right off the shore and the tornado was right on the shore. So it's is closer than you ever want to be, but.
[00:10:09] Heather: for sure. That makes for some pretty spectacular video footage.
[00:10:15] Jeff: Did you All see, and this isn't travel related, but did you see the red pickup truck that got tossed? I think it was in Mississippi. There's a tornado coming through and this just, this truck got rolled about four times and it landed back on his tires and he just put It in drive and he just screamed out of there, landed back on his tires and took off Google that
[00:10:35] Dan: it was on his side spinning around curly in a three
[00:10:39] Jeff: yeah, it got, it went all the way over and then spun around on its side and then the wind tossed it back onto his tires and he punched
[00:10:46] Dan: hauled ass out of there.
[00:10:47] Heather: That's probably what I would do.
[00:10:49] Jeff: Oh yeah.
[00:10:50] Dan: That was cool.
[00:10:51] Heather: I don't care for the crazy weather.
[00:10:54] Jeff: uh, I saw someone had taken that video and put that like a rock, the Chevy commercial [00:11:00] music from it.
[00:11:03] Dan: Nice.
[00:11:04] Heather: That's pretty good.
[00:11:06] Dan: Something that's not pretty good. We briefly touched about this a couple of weeks ago. We talked about the food and wine festival at Disneyland. You remember, we talked about that peanut butter and jelly, Mac and cheese.
[00:11:18] Jeff: It sounded so good.
[00:11:19] Dan: Let me tell you why this headline might sell you on
[00:11:22] Heather: Okay. Let's hear
[00:11:23] Dan: says I tried Disneyland's PB and J macaroni and it's surprisingly, wasn't the worst thing I ate at the park that day.
[00:11:29] Heather: That's selling it. That's really selling it. What was the worst thing they ate at the
[00:11:34] Dan: apparently the worst thing they ate at the park that day was frozen guacamole.
[00:11:38] Heather: Bill? Like a guacamole Popsicle.
[00:11:41] Dan: Yeah. Uh,
Yeah, it is. I've got a picture of it right here. It is a guacamole Popsicle.
It was topped with lime crema, Pico to Gaya chili, lime seasoning, and a tortilla crunch,
[00:11:54] Heather: thanks.
[00:11:55] Jeff: no that looks.
[00:11:56] Dan: just crushed up tortilla
[00:11:57] Jeff: had a, an avocado Popsicle [00:12:00] is at that place. Heather, I took you guys to, when you were
[00:12:02] Heather: good.
[00:12:03] Jeff: That was good. Cause it was kinda lightly sweet, but also it was like avocado in line, but this just looks awful.
[00:12:10] Heather: it's got Pico to guy on it.
[00:12:12] Jeff: I don't like frozen, savory
[00:12:14] Heather: no,
[00:12:15] Dan: a Popsicle with salsa
[00:12:17] Heather: I like Despacito, but even that took
[00:12:20] Jeff: I loved that headline. Surprisingly. Wasn't the worst thing I had.
[00:12:25] Dan: And then, so there's a closer picture of this stuff and holy crap. So it's just macaroni noodles and it's covered in like a peanut butter and strawberry jelly
[00:12:34] Jeff: it looks vaguely green too. It's got an
[00:12:37] Dan: Yeah. Oh yeah. See, here's the worst thing. So they say that the official description says it has a brown sugar streusel looking at this picture as not streusel.
That's just brown sugar dumped on top of it. And then yes,
[00:12:47] Heather: rocks.
[00:12:48] Dan: pop rocks. And the reviewer says that it wasn't terrible, but one of those strawberry pop rocks hit that was the end of it.
[00:12:56] Jeff: But it was $8 and 25 cents.
[00:12:59] Heather: [00:13:00] Oh, gosh.
[00:13:01] Dan: which is relatively.
[00:13:03] Jeff: I'll eat any weird thing. Once
[00:13:05] Heather: Sure. Why
[00:13:06] Dan: Then head out to Disneyland, head on to California adventure. And it's that the nuts about cheese,
[00:13:12] Jeff: literally a plate full of bugs two weeks ago,
[00:13:15] Heather: he, did he ate a bug tostada,
[00:13:18] Jeff: it had 50 or 60 bugs on it, all different mealworms.
[00:13:22] Heather: or
[00:13:23] Jeff: they had worms and big giant carpenter ants and
[00:13:27] Heather: when it said ants? I on the menu, I was picturing, some little tiny black
[00:13:33] Jeff: little flecks, Like
[00:13:34] Heather: those
[00:13:34] Dan: crushed
[00:13:35] Jeff: No, these were humongous black.
[00:13:38] Dan: You can see their eyeballs,
[00:13:39] Jeff: Yeah.
[00:13:40] Heather: encounter a live, one of those ants, I would run away in terror. It was gross.
[00:13:45] Jeff: Yeah.
[00:13:46] Dan: Ms. Crispy crunch, and he wasn't
[00:13:47] Heather: Oh,
[00:13:48] Jeff: was not the best thing I've eaten, but I wanted to try it. It's we were, in a very authentically Mexican place. And the lady, when I ordered it, she was like, oh, she was like, impressed that this punky was gonna [00:14:00] try that. And then I ate two
[00:14:02] Heather: there were a grasshoppers, was it grasshoppers or mealworms that they put in the,
[00:14:07] Dan: Crickets.
[00:14:08] Jeff: and
[00:14:08] Heather: in the guacamole they put some bugs in the guacamole at that place too.
[00:14:12] Jeff: Yeah,
[00:14:12] Heather: think it was the mealworms.
Want to eat a worm thinks
[00:14:16] Dan: people who are supposed to be really smart, keep on saying that crickets are the wave of the future. This is where we're going to get our protein and set of
[00:14:23] Heather: I know. I keep hearing that
[00:14:25] Dan: Cricket meal is the way the
[00:14:26] Jeff: some delicious guac on top of it and a little hot salsa and it just
[00:14:31] Dan: it in the
[00:14:31] Jeff: any other,
[00:14:33] Heather: Tostada.
[00:14:34] Jeff: like any other crunchy Mexicans. You didn't spend a lot of time looking
[00:14:39] Heather: What if they had chopped those bugs up so that I couldn't tell what it was probably would have tried to bite, but those were some whole worms.
[00:14:46] Jeff: They were very obviously,
[00:14:49] Heather: No, thank you.
[00:14:50] Dan: On the other hand, something I say, thank you very much. And yes, please. To is. This new resort coming to outside the great smoky mountain national [00:15:00] park. It's the world's biggest tree house.
[00:15:03] Heather: saw this article about this resort and Dan Leonard was the first thing that popped into my mind. This looks up your alley, the sanctuary Treehouse resorts in the smokey mountains of Tennessee, it's going to be 130 tree houses spread across 40 acres. And they're very cool. Some of them have, are two stories and have circular slides down for the kids to slide down
[00:15:32] Jeff: Yeah, the slide is cool. There's like your bungalow up
[00:15:34] Dan: What do you mean the
[00:15:35] Heather: Oh, sorry for Dan to slide down,
[00:15:38] Jeff: The 30 something kids,
[00:15:40] Heather: going to be a spiral slide, a climbing rope, a bucket pulley, a net swing, a secret ladder with a trap door telescope, the telescope.
[00:15:50] Jeff: they don't Tell a scoop. They don't show what the inside of these things
[00:15:54] Heather: Oh, look, there's going to be a
[00:15:56] Jeff: bungalow up top And then a hangout, a covered [00:16:00] deck below that. And that's what the
[00:16:01] Heather: to be a drink shoot for a bottles and cans from the kitchen to the hangout. So you can send a beer down,
[00:16:08] Jeff: I'm going to that and I'm not far from Gatlin.
[00:16:11] Heather: There's good.
[00:16:12] Dan: is run by the
[00:16:13] Heather: one will have a king size gel cooling bed, a copper clawfoot bathtub, a bamboo jet shower, a hated day. Woo. And an outdoor tub. These are fancy tree houses.
[00:16:25] Jeff: How heated.
[00:16:27] Heather: How hated is the big day.
[00:16:29] Jeff: boiling water up your PIP shoot.
[00:16:30] Heather: not boiling water. It's just warm water.
[00:16:36] Jeff: yeah.
that sounds really cool. That'd be awesome. When it's snowy out, I could fly my drone off that thing.
[00:16:42] Dan: Oh yeah.
[00:16:43] Heather: Six, six to 10 of them are going to be available this summer in the first phase. And then by the end of 20, 23, they hope to have about 30 more finished. And then they're going to add 20 to 25 every year until the resort is complete and [00:17:00] has the 130 tree
[00:17:02] Jeff: no engineering building expert, but then that seems slow to build 10 tree house.
[00:17:10] Heather: I, I given the amenities, they, it seems like it might be a bit of a, an expense to build these,
[00:17:16] Jeff: I feel like they should build these things, tiny house style in a factory somewhere, and then praying them in there and set them on
[00:17:23] Heather: them in.
[00:17:24] Jeff: Yeah. I'll talk to them.
[00:17:25] Heather: They look just gorgeous.
[00:17:29] Jeff: Yeah. I want to go to this,
[00:17:32] Dan: Yeah, I would happily steal. Imagine I'm really, I really liked the idea of this beverage shoot from the kitchen and whichever kid misbehaved the most during the day, they have to stay upstairs in the kitchen with a walkie
[00:17:44] Jeff: I just want to just sit in the kid down.
[00:17:46] Dan: Oh no. They have the man to shoot for the evening and
[00:17:49] Heather: be
[00:17:49] Dan: you get little walkie-talkie beer.
Me kid.
[00:17:53] Heather: If you go to their website, the plan, the resort is called the sanctuary Treehouse resort and the [00:18:00] website is Treehouse resort.com. They have a floor plans and some more views of these tree houses. There's going to be a fireplace on the deck. Oh yeah.
[00:18:14] Jeff: That sounds
[00:18:14] Heather: great,
[00:18:16] Dan: This is owned by the people who own the Skylift park, the old school, a ski lift that takes you up to the top of the mountain. And they've got that Raisy
[00:18:25] Jeff: Gatlinburg.
[00:18:26] Heather: it doesn't look like they sleep very many people. There's a king bed and then a full down cot and a full-size Murphy bed. So maybe four to five people.
[00:18:38] Dan: Yeah. And then they're going to have a double with a Drawbridge in between the two
[00:18:41] Heather: Oh, cool.
[00:18:43] Dan: houses. It says it looks like they're going to
[00:18:45] Jeff: Tree house resort.com.
[00:18:47] Heather: house resort.com.
Take a look. Ah, tree Fort double two tree houses that can be connected by a Drawbridge. Cool.
[00:18:58] Dan: Yeah.
[00:18:59] Heather: That's really neat.[00:19:00]
[00:19:00] Dan: Yeah. I know there's already one of these or there's another Treehouse resort in the area already and it's really popular. It's one of those things that pops up on like the Pinterest and Instagram a lot. So I'm behind this 100%,
[00:19:14] Jeff: one very full of that kind of stuff. It's so pretty up there or down there in your case.
[00:19:23] Heather: It is down there for us while
[00:19:26] Dan: We lit enchanted forest 100%. I'm all about
[00:19:30] Heather: If you like to golf, it's situated on two golf courses.
[00:19:35] Jeff: I love golfing.
[00:19:37] Dan: I do not,
[00:19:38] Jeff: That's the one where you hit the little ball.
[00:19:40] Heather: the mini kind.
[00:19:42] Dan: Yeah, let's see. Let's next on my list. Oh last week we talked a little bit about that star wars villainous game. I got another star wars game for you guys. This one's a little easier to take with you on the go. I'm sure that by now you're all familiar with a word game sensation.
[00:20:00] That's sweeping the nation, a Wordle.
[00:20:02] Heather: No, what is
[00:20:02] Jeff: is it?
[00:20:06] Heather: Yes. Dan, we've heard a Wordle.
[00:20:09] Jeff: It was like, how do I explain?
where it'll be
[00:20:11] Heather: I explain?
[00:20:13] Dan: No, that was just my impression of the blank face emoji on
For people who are either smart assets like Jeff and Heather, or I actually don't know what Wordle is. It's a word game where you have to guess a five letter word, you've got six chances. It's like that old mastermind game where you try to guess the colored pegs.
It tells you when you got a letter right. In the right present right position. But the exciting thing is I stumbled across Swurtle today. That's S w O R D L
[00:20:41] Heather: is that
[00:20:41] Jeff: a certain space saga fund,
[00:20:43] Heather: is that different from swear? Suerte
[00:20:45] Dan: Oh yeah. It's not as, it's not as sweary as swearing.
[00:20:48] Heather: to all as the four-letter word game,
[00:20:51] Dan: that's right. This
[00:20:52] Heather: bad at that game.
[00:20:53] Dan: Yeah. They used a lot of words that aren't really that vulgar you were not going to hear of many of the words in this game either [00:21:00] because this is of course the star wars version of
It's. It's cool.
[00:21:05] Jeff: with only five letters though, there can't be.
[00:21:09] Heather: no,
[00:21:09] Dan: true. However, they're wordless, you can look at the full word list on the website. It's 14,000 words and approximately 13,500 of those are made up alien words.
[00:21:22] Heather: Oh, come on.
[00:21:24] Dan: one.
[00:21:26] Heather: No, thank you.
[00:21:28] Dan: Our abou RF, our BU our bore, our bra. Yeah. If you are really into self punishment and you really love star wars, try out Swurtle you can find that@wordle.star wars.guide
[00:21:47] Jeff: I just started with Nebu,
[00:21:50] Heather: That's only four letters. Oh no. N a B O. Oh, nevermind. See, this is why I won't be playing. And I'm a star wars fan.[00:22:00]
[00:22:00] Dan: Yeah, no, it's not it's
[00:22:02] Heather: Did you get it
[00:22:02] Jeff: was not never
[00:22:03] Heather: was not Nebu. Oh,
[00:22:04] Jeff: No, but the hay was correct. And the bees there, but in their own spot,
[00:22:08] Dan: it's the first ladder
[00:22:10] Heather: to.
[00:22:10] Dan: basic in the human language.
[00:22:14] Jeff: it's only for I don't think I'll be very good at that. I can hardly do if regular English words on Wordle and I don't know any star wars words, if it's not Nebu or add at or no, that's it. That's all I got
[00:22:29] Dan: Yeah. So have fun with that one nerds stick around because after the commercial break, we're catching up on our Disney plus watch list and we're back. A lot of amazing content has been added to Disney plus since the last time we sat down to D plus and chill for those keeping score, that was way back in November, 2019.
[00:22:52] Heather: Ooh,
[00:22:52] Jeff: love the D and can't get enough of the big.
[00:22:56] Dan: Yeah, that's true. That's why we talk about the big D every week.[00:23:00]
[00:23:00] Heather: true.
[00:23:02] Dan: I think it's time to sit back, relax and catch up on all the must-see TV and movies. We've talked plenty about Bruno, but maybe we should start off by addressing the big red Panda in the room.
[00:23:14] Heather: Turning red loved it.
[00:23:17] Dan: Yeah. Turning red is a huge hit in our house. At least with the girl folks, the boy folks aren't quite as into it, but,
[00:23:24] Jeff: I thought it was terrific. And I think 51 year old men are probably its exact target audience,
[00:23:30] Heather: I think so, too
[00:23:31] Dan: yeah. Yeah. You really which character in the movie did you identify with the most
[00:23:36] Jeff: Abby, for sure.
[00:23:37] Dan: Yeah. Oh yeah. I can see that. I can
[00:23:40] Jeff: And she can control her. Very excitement. Every emotion she had was just nuts. I thought it was great. It was just a candy.
[00:23:49] Heather: delight. It was a delight.
[00:23:51] Jeff: I loved all the coloring of it. I noticed I was talking to Heather about this. All the coloring in this thing was exactly like these filters that all the [00:24:00] ladies use on the Instagram, like it, it looked like a teenage girl life.
It just had the whole look of it. It was good. And I liked the energy and it was very funny. I
liked the, I thought the relationship with the mother and daughter wound up being very heartwarming and it all came together and made a lot of sense at the end. I just,
[00:24:21] Dan: relationship with the girl squad was awesome.
[00:24:23] Jeff: I loved it.
[00:24:24] Dan: I love that my daughters can see like that friend group relationship modeled
[00:24:30] Jeff: Oh, that's pretty a far that women would support each other like.
that.
[00:24:36] Heather: am a four town fan and we'll be heading to the first concert that
[00:24:41] Jeff: Does your son old town like for town.
[00:24:43] Heather: What none of them would watch it with me. So I watched it myself,
[00:24:47] Dan: They're lame.
[00:24:48] Jeff: dude's
[00:24:49] Heather: It's okay.
[00:24:50] Dan: sat down to wash it. I enjoyed it a lot. I like when every once in a while they'd flashed like total anime faces, like they'd go from their regular character
[00:24:58] Jeff: yeah, they'd go starry. I over [00:25:00] the boys.
[00:25:00] Heather: I actually think that's. That was that's what will get me to convince them to watch it with me? Is that
[00:25:06] Jeff: Her one friend, Abby, other main characters friend, Abby had animated face all the time. She'd be normal. And then she'd just totally go nuts and all the background behind her would swirl just like the weird anime stuff. I loved
[00:25:18] Dan: Just tell them the second half is a Kaiju movie is just
[00:25:21] Heather: it really is too.
[00:25:22] Jeff: Yeah. Pretty much.
[00:25:23] Dan: Godzilla versus Mecca, Godzilla or something.
[00:25:26] Jeff: And I don't get, there's been like some weird, like manufactured
[00:25:30] Heather: I don't understand
[00:25:31] Jeff: they mentioned that they mentioned periods like the, when the girl discovers that she's turning into a Panda, the mom doesn't understand that's what's happening and think she's freaking out about
[00:25:42] Heather: Does your red Jasmine blooming?
[00:25:45] Jeff: But so that girls have periods and people are freaking out over that. And then they're just making up stuff to be angry about these moms I see in these groups are dads too. And I think they haven't seen it. I think they just read some article That told them that they should
[00:25:59] Heather: That they [00:26:00] should be because the little girls are disobedient and they sneak out of the
[00:26:04] Jeff: and they, sneak out
[00:26:06] Heather: they are boy crazy. Let's talk about who else had other Disney movies have
[00:26:11] Jeff: Disney woman does the same thing, Cinderella, And
[00:26:14] Heather: Cinderella,
[00:26:16] Jeff: how about tangled? She climbed out of the tower and left her mom off with the
[00:26:20] Heather: off with a boy. Yes.
[00:26:22] Dan: Yeah. Jasmine shacks up with a street rat. She goes to be homeless
[00:26:26] Jeff: yes, that's the fly and Milan left homed and lied and left home, snuck out of the house to join the war and save the world.
[00:26:34] Heather: She was fighting Huns
[00:26:36] Dan: But not to mention so those are the extreme example, but what kid? That age isn't rebellious and doesn't
this,
[00:26:45] Heather: doodling in a journal pictures of boys and thinking about kissing it's normal.
[00:26:51] Jeff: and overbearing moms. They're always the plot too. That's the part of every one of these things. In, in brave, the mom turned into a bear [00:27:00] talk about overbearing
[00:27:01] Heather: Yes.
[00:27:02] Jeff: that wasn't even very subtle, but I don't understand. This
[00:27:04] Heather: think the issue is that it's set, it's not a fairy tale setting. It's actual
[00:27:10] Jeff: yes.
[00:27:10] Heather: present
[00:27:11] Dan: forbid our kids have, relatable things that they can watch to see that they're not alone. And, maybe the
[00:27:19] Heather: they're not weird that they're that it's normal.
[00:27:21] Jeff: That's really, it was the plot of the thing is that the mom wanted to have her, stifle, her power or whatever, but then she realized in the end that
[00:27:30] Heather: what's original about
[00:27:31] Jeff: with this part of me and I won't spoil the ending, but the mom realizes she did that to appease her mom. Her mom did it to a piece, her.
mom, and maybe some time at some point you have to be your own person and be happy with who you are.
And I thought it was great. This
[00:27:45] Heather: I did too.
[00:27:46] Jeff: to a lot of high energy.
[00:27:48] Heather: The music is
[00:27:49] Jeff: better than onward, which I liked also, but
[00:27:54] Heather: I liked it as much as I like to end Canto
[00:27:58] Dan: Yes.
[00:27:59] Heather: very
[00:27:59] Dan: They're [00:28:00] similar in some ways. But in, but there, they approach it from a very different angle.
[00:28:04] Jeff: Yeah. Yeah, they did have a similar vibe. It was like young women discovering that they can be happy with letting exactly they are
[00:28:12] Dan: and the gener generational conflict and families.
[00:28:15] Heather: And this was.
[00:28:17] Jeff: and not light. I
think that's maybe what some people are mad
[00:28:21] Heather: unfortunately, I think that's true. It was this was released direct to Disney plus. Whereas in Canto, it was a simultaneous thing. Yeah.
[00:28:31] Jeff: but nobody was in theaters
[00:28:33] Heather: At the time. Yeah.
[00:28:35] Dan: Yeah. But and Pixar people are pretty upset because this is the second movie in a row that
[00:28:41] Heather: Yeah. Honestly, I would love to have seen this.
[00:28:44] Jeff: solo, went
[00:28:45] Heather: Oh, that's true.
[00:28:46] Jeff: or straight to Disney plus,
[00:28:48] Heather: would have loved to see this
[00:28:49] Jeff: and onward did go to theaters, but only for a week before they put it out on.
[00:28:54] Heather: I did see onward in the theater,
[00:28:57] Dan: Yeah. Yeah, that [00:29:00] was bad timing for that movie.
[00:29:02] Heather: sadly. Yes. But this movie really is just the first in a series of a lot of great content. That's coming to Disney plus I'm excited for a lot of.
[00:29:12] Jeff: They've been crushing it with the Marvel stuff. I've enjoyed every one of the Marvel shows and now they much to my surprise have brought the thing. All the adults, Netflix Marvel stuff is now available. If you choose to make it available on your thing with the parental guidance.
[00:29:31] Heather: Yeah. When you, the first and the first time you launch Disney, plus since they've added it, it will ask you if you want it, you have to accept it. You have to opt in and every profile in your account, you have to separately set, whether it can
[00:29:45] Jeff: And you can only accept yes. That you want to, if you're one of the master, if you're like a little kid, you can't say yes to, it has to be set up for you. And that's good. We don't have that. We just have adults that in my house, but we were like, Yes. [00:30:00] spring on the violence.
[00:30:01] Heather: was excited because I was never going to get through Daredevil on Netflix before they pulled it. And now I can take my time now that it's
[00:30:09] Jeff: my son. And I had just started watching and he'd already seen Daredevil. We got through two seasons and then they pulled it like, ah,
[00:30:18] Heather: I am loving dare devil, but I do have to say it felt a little weird launching Disney plus to watch this particular show because it's so violent.
[00:30:28] Jeff: do not let your children
[00:30:30] Heather: No. This is not, this is, 16 and up content. It's incredibly violent, but it's so well
[00:30:38] Jeff: they were, they did some of this to pave the way for the Marvel's newest show moon night, which
[00:30:43] Heather: I am so excited about that.
[00:30:45] Jeff: for that. And apparently the, I have not read, I was not familiar with these comics, but apparently they're pretty hardcore and I'm excited for this.
[00:30:53] Heather: And then there, they brought some of the older stuff. Jessica Jones is on here. Now all of the agents of shield is here. [00:31:00] Jessica Jones is a great show. Really. The X man is on here. All the really great every imaginable Marvel superhero is here now, all in one place, which is great. And there's some really good Marvel stuff coming up.
You mentioned moon night.
[00:31:21] Jeff: She Hulk.
[00:31:22] Heather: she helped. Yes.
[00:31:24] Jeff: comment when I was a youngster. I love Hulk. And then she helped cause like a sexy hell guy liked her, but in this one she's a lawyer. And I think it's going to be more like, it sounds more like one the vision, almost like a comic surreal thing where it's just normal that this Hulk looking woman is
[00:31:39] Heather: Yes.
[00:31:40] Jeff: lawyer.
I'm looking forward to that. I haven't released any previous for it yet, but I love the comic and I'm excited for that.
[00:31:47] Heather: Ms. Marvel is coming in June of this year.
[00:31:51] Dan: Oh, she's on spidey and his amazing friends.
[00:31:54] Jeff: Ms. Marvel looks cool. It's weird. They're getting like multiple captain Marvel things happening. [00:32:00] There's the marvels and captain Marvel and miss Marvel. So I'm excited for this one.
[00:32:05] Heather: Agatha house of Harkness. We don't have a release date yet, but that will becoming Marvel
[00:32:12] Jeff: her all along.
[00:32:13] Heather: Yeah. Marvel zombies. I'm not familiar with what? Anything
[00:32:17] Jeff: That was one of the episodes of what if
[00:32:21] Dan: that's like an alternate universe
[00:32:22] Heather: I have seen a few of
[00:32:24] Jeff: there's a whole series of comics on Marvel zombies. Apparently that's a very popular thing. And then from the previews of the new Dr. Strange, there's a zombie strange in that.
[00:32:34] Heather: Which I cannot wait for
[00:32:35] Jeff: So I guess it's one, we'll introduce the other. I'm not
[00:32:38] Heather: multi-verse of madness, super excited. Every trailer I see it.
[00:32:43] Jeff: and another Marvel secret invasion. This looks like a humongous, hugely budgeted. And it's got a Nick fury and the gang being with all these it's more of the alien people from the krill or whatever they're called curl krill [00:33:00] from captain Marvel,
[00:33:01] Heather: Yes.
[00:33:02] Jeff: a lot of that going on. And we've been wondering what, what happened to Nick fury since he was dusted at the end of the Avengers there.
And he's back that show looks awesome.
[00:33:13] Heather: There's a lot of star wars content that's coming too. Then I'm pretty excited
[00:33:18] Dan: Oh, The subject I was starting to fit. I was starting to feel like when my kids are talking about Minecraft to me,
[00:33:25] Jeff: Are you not a Marvel?
[00:33:26] Heather: Not a Marvel guy.
[00:33:28] Dan: have so marveled out, I'm a DC guy to begin with, but it's just, there's so much of this Marvel
[00:33:33] Jeff: are three Marvel shows coming ch a star wars show just this year.
[00:33:37] Heather: Justice years. Did you watch book of Boba Fett?
[00:33:40] Dan: I did. And I don't agree with most of the people who thought it was a disappointment, but I could
[00:33:45] Heather: I watched the whole thing and I liked it. I especially liked the last three episodes when it became the Mandalorian.
[00:33:53] Jeff: Yeah,
[00:33:53] Dan: I liked it before then, too
[00:33:55] Heather: Yes.
[00:33:56] Dan: well. And I think that was the idea all along. I really thought it was cool. The time [00:34:00] he spent with the sand people. I was never, I think a lot of the people that were complaining about it were into this myth of Boba Fett. I was never like obsessed with him. He was really just a throw away, not important
[00:34:13] Heather: don't care about Boba Fett. I never wondered how he got out of the spit of Sarlacc didn't care. Did not
[00:34:21] Dan: I loved this version of how he got out of it. I love seeing him with a sand people. It was great seeing the Marshall back again that I also, I've never watched clone wars. So this was the first time I've seen that Clint Eastwood dude, who was really cool,
[00:34:36] Jeff: cool. I forget what his name is, but everybody freaked out. Vain, CAD Bain.
[00:34:41] Dan: CAD Bain.
[00:34:42] Heather: Oh yeah. I did watch the clone wears on CAD Bain is a cool
[00:34:46] Dan: yeah, he's awesome. I'm sorry,
[00:34:48] Heather: I loved the battle. Lucky. I don't know. I don't remember what his name was. I
[00:34:52] Dan: Black
[00:34:52] Jeff: Black Jui
[00:34:53] Heather: Yeah. I was calling a battle looky.
[00:34:56] Dan: Yeah, he was cool. And I'm sorry, this is slightly spoiler-y, [00:35:00] but at the very end Boba Fett riding to save the day on his.
[00:35:04] Jeff: cool is that?
[00:35:05] Heather: Yes.
[00:35:06] Dan: It's ranked car. Are you kidding me? That was amazing.
[00:35:10] Jeff: I thought The first episode was like, I didn't care. The second one was so boring. Third one was cheesy and then four, five, and six were.
[00:35:19] Dan: The one thing that I didn't care for that really pissed me off out of the whole show was so I get the pun where these kids that have the cyborg attachments they're modified. So they're the mods. So they had to put them on freaking Quadrophenia motor scooters. I hated
[00:35:36] Heather: you hated that because I was going to be real
[00:35:38] Jeff: I thought I was stupid too, but the more I think about it. whenever they show like big city versions of star wars, when they're on each planet is only one type of thing. Desert planet, woods, planet, city, planet,
[00:35:53] Heather: yes.
[00:35:54] Jeff: they, are there? No every plan is just a single biome, but in the cities, there are [00:36:00] always those kinds of weird things, but it didn't make any sense that these mods would be in this basically old west looking
[00:36:07] Heather: Yeah.
[00:36:08] Dan: and that's fine to have them on just don't make the scooters look like they're straight off the Quadrophenia album
[00:36:14] Heather: Yes. Thank you.
[00:36:15] Dan: what really pissed
[00:36:16] Jeff: That felt weird. And I will admit, I love Mandalorian so much that I am sick of the space Western side of star wars. I need some Shogun star wars And I'm glad Obi
[00:36:28] Heather: And that is what is coming. Yes.
[00:36:30] Jeff: cut to obiwan at first, I was like, oh, awesome. We're in a desert again. Like they have the one set they've built
Looking at it, but then he goes, Yes. He was hiding out there, but then it looks like he goes to all these different kinds of planets and there's jeopardize and there's light sabers.
That's what I like. And I also need, it looks and doors coming out and that's going to be more like X wing fighters and that kind of cool. I want all that.
[00:36:54] Dan: Yeah.
[00:36:54] Heather: And there's the, if you watched any of star wars rebels that you probably [00:37:00] didn't, but.
[00:37:01] Jeff: If it's a cartoon, I did not
[00:37:03] Heather: but watch Dan, you should watch it. I think you would love it. And it's
[00:37:06] Dan: I'm working on starting
[00:37:07] Heather: yeah, cause there's going to be some elements from that show in in obiwan and it's pretty great. Some really good villains that you
[00:37:18] Jeff: I like the show, gunny Asians, star wars, and I like world war two star wars.
[00:37:23] Heather: Yeah. They in the
[00:37:25] Jeff: The space
[00:37:26] Heather: Are the new villains that are pretty, pretty nasty. They're pretty nasty. And
[00:37:30] Jeff: Yeah, that looks cool.
[00:37:33] Dan: And that's something like something that spin off what Jeff said that I was talking about. Jeff said
[00:37:41] Heather: Hi,
[00:37:41] Dan: something I was talking about with another
[00:37:43] Jeff: Uncut jams.
[00:37:47] Dan: There's so many of the star wars fans who got so upset about booking Boba fat, some of the sequel trilogy and stuff.
And he gets so precious over star wars has to [00:38:00] be this one way, but it's it is literally a gigantic galaxy full of all these planets. And there's different stories happening everywhere.
[00:38:07] Jeff: why we should keep telling desert stories.
[00:38:12] Dan: I personally liked the space westerns, but that's just my weird
[00:38:15] Heather: I really did too,
[00:38:16] Jeff: I just got a little fatigued on it.
[00:38:18] Heather: getting excited about the moving away from that a bit
[00:38:23] Dan: no, and that's fair.
[00:38:24] Jeff: On the last season of Mandalorian when what's her face, Rosario, Dawson. What's her cool character.
[00:38:29] Heather: Soca, Tano, and she's getting her
[00:38:31] Jeff: showed up that whole thing looked like a Shogun showdown. That was awesome.
[00:38:36] Heather: And Fennec, Fenech Shannon.
[00:38:37] Jeff: Favorite episode.
[00:38:40] Dan: Oh, you mean move on.
[00:38:41] Heather: Yes.
[00:38:42] Jeff: I love her. She's such a BA and everything she does.
[00:38:46] Heather: The, we don't have a date yet, but a soca is also coming to her. She's getting
[00:38:50] Jeff: Yeah. I think that might also be this year. So you got end
[00:38:53] Heather: I hope so.
[00:38:56] Dan: Yeah, it was originally supposed to be this year. I think it's like a TBD at the time.[00:39:00]
[00:39:00] Heather: It does say that technically
[00:39:02] Jeff: right. And they've moved it down here to TBD.
[00:39:05] Heather: heavy.
[00:39:06] Dan: And isn't there supposed to be a rogue squadron. One.
[00:39:09] Heather: canceled Rangers. Yeah.
[00:39:12] Dan: No, that's different. That's different ranges of the old,
[00:39:15] Jeff: rogue squadron is a movie
[00:39:17] Heather: Oh,
[00:39:18] Jeff: by the,
lady that did a wonder woman.
[00:39:21] Heather: Yes.
Rangers of the new Republic was canceled. That's the one
[00:39:25] Dan: Yeah, that one's set like back in that's a older history kind of
[00:39:30] Heather: it was
[00:39:31] Dan: series.
[00:39:32] Heather: Dan, have you watched any of the star wars?
[00:39:37] Dan: No, I, no, I haven't seen any of the cartoons. The only star wars cartoons that I have watched is a couple of episodes of clone wars. And then those old eighties ones, the star wars droids in the star wars, Iraq adventures. Those are my jam. I remember those.
[00:39:54] Heather: my my husband and my kids watched all of the, because they're huge anime fans and also [00:40:00] star wars fan. So the mashup, they watched all of them. They liked some of them, they didn't like others. But they watched the whole series.
[00:40:07] Jeff: Was It multiple series
[00:40:08] Heather: was Mo it was a standalone. I think there were episodic and there were, yeah, there were nine episodes and they were all a little bit different,
[00:40:18] Dan: There's so much star wars to Wade through on Disney plus between the Lego star wars releases. We didn't even talk about the fact that they did Lego star wars version of the holiday special.
[00:40:28] Heather: Yeah.
[00:40:29] Jeff: I didn't watch that. I need to ask that.
[00:40:32] Dan: There's a Halloween one. That's spooky that my kids like their summer sours to get through and for some, but for some reason that doesn't bother me the way the sheer volume of Marvel matters to me. I
[00:40:41] Heather: love all
[00:40:42] Jeff: You're in the Marvel nerd camp, not to, the star wars parody camp that
[00:40:46] Heather: I will say there is a recent Marvel that I did not like at all in fact could not finish. I found it so boring. And that was the eternal
[00:40:57] Jeff: It's funny that it's called Eternals too. Cause it. felt like [00:41:00] It was eternal.
[00:41:00] Heather: was any Trinity, this movie. I didn't like it.
[00:41:04] Jeff: The super
[00:41:05] Heather: recently, I love talk. I loved all
[00:41:09] Jeff: Hawkeye might be my favorite of the Marvel show.
[00:41:13] Heather: It was great. And they've also brought over any Disney plus has so much content. Now they've brought over all of the Simpsons, which I still find bizarre. It's a little.
[00:41:24] Dan: Ooh. And they're putting out some specials that are Disney plus exclusive. There's a star wars
[00:41:28] Jeff: And they're making some pretty awful looking remakes of some pretty mediocre movies. I'm looking forward to the second remake of cheaper by the dozen. Sorry,
[00:41:37] Dan: Excuse me. I think it's more like the third or fourth. Yeah. Yeah. That's crazy.
[00:41:41] Heather: All of the Nat geo content on here is pretty great. If you're into
[00:41:46] Jeff: I love all that
[00:41:47] Heather: I do
[00:41:48] Dan: And they're dropping a ton of that in April for earth day. That's almost the only thing that's going to be released. New Disney plus is the majority is nacho
[00:41:58] Heather: Disney nature. Is [00:42:00] that brand going away? And now it's all going to be called national geographic or are they keeping the Nat, the
[00:42:06] Dan: There's,
[00:42:06] Heather: name? Because I love all of those movies, penguins and bears. And
[00:42:13] Dan: Did Disney nature is a little bit different from Nat geo because
[00:42:17] Heather: It's a little more Windsor.
[00:42:19] Dan: yeah. In a little more narrative, they try to make a narrative out of it. And plus I'd be shocked if they dropped it just because of, again, that like log going back to Walt's original, true life
[00:42:31] Jeff: what's the one from last year that was elephants with Megan Markle. Was that Nat geo or was that Disney nature? Because that one was really good.
[00:42:40] Dan: I think that's Disney
[00:42:41] Heather: I'm pretty sure it was Disneynature
[00:42:43] Dan: Yeah, because they made a big deal. Like I remember jokes about her being a Disney princess
It was announced that she was going to be doing
[00:42:50] Jeff: I get it. Cause she is on where
That. she's a Duchess.
[00:42:55] Heather: There's lots of those, lots of great Mickey mouse content. I know the new [00:43:00] animation style. Isn't everyone's favorite, but I love the new Mickey mouse cartoons. I'll watch them all day.
[00:43:08] Dan: this is my wheelhouse, my specialty, because my youngest is really into Mickey mouse, but so we had those Mickey mouse shorts series, but then have you guys watched the. There are a little bit longer, the wonderful world and Mickey mouse. I don't think we talked about this last time and they go, there's a lot of the episodes that reference stuff from Disney parks. And there's a lot of them that pull in a lot more obscure characters from old silly symphonies cartoons and other shorts and stuff. But my favorite one I shared with Heather not too long ago is game night and I don't want to give too much away, but the things that the Walt Disney company of 2020 let these people do with Walt Disney and Mickey mouse and [00:44:00] Donald duck are amazing.
[00:44:02] Jeff: I need to look at this.
[00:44:04] Heather: you do.
[00:44:05] Dan: yes you do. I can't spoil it because it's the most, it's just everybody hit pause March that short and then come back, please. Come back, please.
[00:44:14] Jeff: Sorry. I'll be right back.
Excuse me.
[00:44:17] Dan: You could do it after we finished
[00:44:18] Jeff: I that's probably, yeah, that's better ed.
[00:44:22] Dan: So spinning off of that series, they've released some really good, longer specials. There's a there's a Halloween special called the scariest story ever, where everybody makes fun of Mickey mouse because they tell him that he sucks his talent, scary stories, because he's too happy and nice.
And so he proceeds to try to scare the pants off of Huey Dewey and Louie and his nephews. That was really good. Have you seen duck? The halls
[00:44:46] Heather: I haven't
[00:44:46] Dan: is the Christmas one. They put out. Okay. Ludwig Von Drake tells Donald that he. At all costs migrate down south for the winter. Otherwise, terrible things will happen in his body will basically [00:45:00] disintegrate, but Mickey mouse and Minnie mouse talk him into staying with them for Christmas so that he can finally experience Christmas and he starts to deteriorate and it's like Dorian Gray's porch. And it's just the most grotesque disgusting thing. But he's determined to stay through Christmas and it's they ended up having to save him. It's
[00:45:20] Heather: I'm going to have to check that out.
[00:45:22] Dan: yeah, there's also a winter one. That's more general, not Christmas-y, but winter themed things. There's one, that's a takeoff on that old once upon a wintertime ice skating short that they have.
It's very old and probably the only one who knows what I'm talking about. And just a couple of days for a new record, they're putting out a wonderful spring of Mickey mouse, which I make looking forward to.
[00:45:43] Heather: I'm a fan of all Mickey mouse things.
[00:45:45] Dan: Yes, which so I wanted to recommend, cause you might not have seen this one check out Mickey, go local. This is weird. It
[00:45:53] Jeff: or Loco.
[00:45:54] Dan: local L O C a L. It's like the Mickey mouse shorts, but it was made for the [00:46:00] Philippines and Malaysia or no sync Singapore and Malaysia.
[00:46:03] Heather: and the animation style is a, yet a little bit different.
[00:46:07] Dan: yeah, it's really cool. A little bit weird Asiany but it's the same kind of like shorts.
It's mostly nos dialogue. If there is any speaking it's dubbed, cause obviously it's Malai or whatever. But it's really good. There's only six episodes or so, but it's like, it gets into real cultural things for them. It's a really good show. You can finish. I think all the episodes in less than half an hour.
So check that out.
[00:46:30] Heather: I will check that out.
[00:46:34] Dan: Some other cartoons that my kids were really excited about and if you have. Tweens or people who were recently tweens in your house, they might enjoy they recently put out a cartoon movie of diary of a wimpy kid. There were some live action movies a few years ago that were
[00:46:51] Jeff: I loved
[00:46:52] Dan: or, yeah.
They just put out a cartoon version. That's like a 3d, but it looks like the illustrations in the books.
[00:46:59] Heather: Oh, [00:47:00] interesting.
[00:47:00] Dan: my kids said it's even better than the live action movies. It's even more true to the actual books. They just a couple of months ago put out the first book and fall of 20, 22.
They're going to have the S
[00:47:13] Jeff: those books. He had all those.
[00:47:15] Dan: yeah, I enjoyed it too. I done the live action. One. I don't have the sentimentality of reading the books with my kids or anything. They go off to their rooms and write, read when the kids by themselves.
[00:47:28] Jeff: love the first diary of a wimpy kid. Maybe the second one was good. The third one, they switched cast for some reason. And that
[00:47:34] Dan: Because the kids all got too
[00:47:35] Jeff: Yeah.
it was okay. But it was the first two were great. The first one in particular, the kid that played rally is.
[00:47:42] Dan: Yes. He's very funny. Yeah. So yeah, so these cartoons are really good. My kids loved them a lot.
[00:47:47] Heather: I need to watch the Beatles documentary
[00:47:51] Jeff: Yeah, get
back. I have not yet watched this and I'm a
beetle super fan, but even that's it's a lot of beetles. That's intimidating
[00:47:57] Dan: a lot of Beatles.
[00:47:58] Heather: and each one is[00:48:00] each part is I think two hours,
[00:48:02] Jeff: There's two plus hours. on each
[00:48:04] Dan: Yeah. I watched the trailers that they dropped ahead of time and it looks amazing. And I love that it's finally giving a somewhat more balanced view of what those end days for the Beatles were like. It wasn't just Yoko being.
[00:48:19] Jeff: as big a jerk as everybody thought.
[00:48:23] Dan: Yeah, but neither is Yoko
[00:48:24] Jeff: I was going to say that too, but Yoko's basically just, anyway, one thing I did notice and somebody was talking about is that if you notice that Linda McCartney would leave. She would come through and visit and do stuff. And then she would leave everybody else's wives were there and then they would leave.
And then Yoko stay.
[00:48:43] Heather: just stayed there.
[00:48:45] Dan: yeah. Yeah, they had a weird, just a weird relationship anyway but yeah it's nice to see that they've the version where they really did have that relationship still. It was
[00:48:57] Jeff: feel like that they're doing some kind of [00:49:00] non family and kid necessarily stuff like a big music doc. They paid a ton of money to get that footage and have Peter Jackson, like world
[00:49:08] Dan: Huh.
[00:49:09] Jeff: director put that together. And that was all financed by Disney. And I love that. They just did that and
[00:49:15] Dan: It's awesome. Have you
[00:49:16] Jeff: out. Same thing. That's not my cup of tea with the fact that they did that whole PSA music album
[00:49:21] Dan: it didn't, they do a Billie Eilish thing to some sort of animated album thing.
[00:49:26] Heather: There's, it's finally developing into content for everybody in the family.
[00:49:31] Jeff: It's going to have to be because the parents all got it, like awesome. There's a pandemic. We'll get these. Our kids. can watch these Disney movies and shut up, but then you've blazed through all that and you need to be generating new content. And so far they're doing it. I'm excited for this. I don't know if anybody else is, but disenchanted, which is the sequel to enchanted. I loved
[00:49:50] Heather: I loved that
[00:49:51] Jeff: and I've been wishing they did a sequel to that for years and they're finally doing it. And it's Amy Adams is coming back and
[00:49:57] Heather: I love her.
[00:49:58] Jeff: going to be good.
[00:49:59] Dan: [00:50:00] Have you seen summer of soul
[00:50:02] Jeff: I did watch
[00:50:02] Dan: seen anything
[00:50:03] Jeff: that on an
[00:50:03] Dan: that was,
[00:50:04] Jeff: Oddly. I didn't watch it on.
[00:50:06] Dan: I started that in I'm an old man, so I fell asleep partway through, I need to finish it, but man, that's really cool. Who knew that was happening? The same time as Woodstock, basically. It's a giant music festival in Harlem,
[00:50:19] Jeff: And that was also the year of summer. No, that was earlier than that summer of Sam was 70 something.
[00:50:26] Dan: right? Yeah, no, yeah, it's the same time as was stock promoters put on a huge soul music festival in Harlem. It's really cool to see those performances on film. And that was great.
[00:50:40] Heather: I like all of the bank making of content that it goes along with it. There's lots of
[00:50:47] Jeff: the whole series,
[00:50:48] Heather: the Mandalorian
[00:50:49] Jeff: that series was awesome. and.
then the other ones, the other seasons that they just did one episode making of on each thing, but I loved the whole, there was like a, maybe five or six part [00:51:00] series on the first Mandalorian. I love that. Any
[00:51:05] Dan: Yeah, there's a lot of that there's that day in the life of Disney that's still,
I don't think they're still doing it, but they, it turned into a series after that, the first release that they did, where it was like a movie as a little bit of a snooze, but once they turned it into a series that was
[00:51:20] Jeff: I want more of the Imagineering show. I know they feel like they told the whole story, but I could just watch more and more episodes of that.
[00:51:28] Dan: They could go deep dives
[00:51:30] Jeff: What was the second series they did? It was like
[00:51:33] Dan: fault in the vault.
[00:51:36] Jeff: yeah,
[00:51:37] Dan: great.
[00:51:38] Jeff: I didn't care for the way, the style of it. Somehow the flow of It wasn't good.
[00:51:43] Dan: yeah, and here's the thing that bothered me. Like some of those things, some of the things were new and were really cool to see, like when they went into Walt's house. And there's a few things that I really like, but a lot of it they've already shown especially in that prop was that prop master
[00:51:59] Jeff: [00:52:00] they need another season of that too. I love
[00:52:02] Heather: liked that one
[00:52:03] Dan: That was great. That show I liked better than the into the vault show. Like they spend a whole episode on the Mary Poppins stuff that they showed in the,
[00:52:12] Jeff: made me
[00:52:12] Dan: into the thing. Oh yeah. Yeah. When the vault guy came and he opened up those horses,
[00:52:18] Jeff: Yeah,
[00:52:19] Dan: it's oh my, so yeah, that, that stuff gets me. I wish they would release more of the episodes of the Disneyland TV series.
[00:52:29] Jeff: Any of the Disney land or world history, or I would get real nerdy with a full on like deep dive into the building and construction of Disney world or Disneyland.
[00:52:42] Dan: Now I've got some books for you to read or listen. Sorry. Some audio books for you to listen to that.
[00:52:46] Jeff: I do have several books on some of that. stuff and I have read them and there's lots of pictures usually.
[00:52:56] Dan: Yeah. Yeah. That's the
[00:52:57] Jeff: of, I really enjoyed the there's a making [00:53:00] of the turning red thing that I watched after turning
[00:53:03] Heather: I just noticed that
[00:53:04] Jeff: the
[00:53:04] Heather: haven't seen it
[00:53:05] Jeff: really good. We watched that right after the movie. How about just scrolling through this list of upcoming stuff? There's even another star wars show I had not heard of that's coming out.
I didn't know. It was star wars to clicked on it now. I forgot what it was,
[00:53:21] Heather: Oh, it's the
[00:53:22] Jeff: acolyte. and it doesn't say a thing about what it is, but That the logo is cut in half with the lightsaber.
[00:53:28] Dan: Oh,
[00:53:29] Jeff: It reminds me of the ceiling and the a certain ride that someone here hasn't written.
[00:53:35] Heather: Oh, yes. Oh, I wonder what that could be about then.
[00:53:42] Jeff: Do you know what I mean?
[00:53:43] Heather: Yeah, that could be a Ben solo series.
[00:53:47] Jeff: wars, the acolyte. Oh, that would be great.
[00:53:49] Dan: It says, all it says is going to be female centric and take place in a new part of the star wars timeline. [00:54:00] it is a mystery thriller that will take the audience into a galaxy, a shadowy secrets, an emerging dark side powers in the final days of the high Republic. So this is this is back in
[00:54:12] Heather: Not the chime period. I was thinking. Yeah.
[00:54:15] Jeff: I was hoping that was going to be a race series maybe.
[00:54:18] Dan: No, it's from the creator of the series Russian doll.
[00:54:22] Jeff: Oh yeah, that can be cool.
[00:54:26] Dan: there's not a lot of info yet, but that
[00:54:28] Jeff: it will star Natasha Leone.
[00:54:30] Dan: Maybe
[00:54:32] Jeff: She was in the show.
[00:54:33] Heather: Russian dolls and yeah,
[00:54:35] Dan: I see.
[00:54:37] Jeff: That was very grownup. That show.
[00:54:40] Heather: it was
[00:54:41] Dan: Now they've shown that
[00:54:42] Jeff: a more on Disney plus than I could ever watch. I can tell you.
[00:54:46] Heather: So much finally and so much great stuff.
[00:54:50] Jeff: And
[00:54:50] Dan: Ooh, there's a Wakanda
[00:54:51] Jeff: I hope they do that. Justice.
[00:54:53] Dan: Yes.
[00:54:54] Jeff: loved those books and then that those two movies they did were mediocre at best. They were okay. But [00:55:00]
[00:55:00] Dan: From what I understand, the author is heavily involved in the series because I, why it is really, my wife is a huge fan of the books too. And so I was looking at it and the author is supposed to be heavily involved in the series and it's going to be more true to the book.
[00:55:15] Jeff: very good. Yeah. I know that Rick Riordan was disappointed with the movies or I think it's actually Reinhard and I always thought it was weird and it's right. Or Heather you're very white. How do you pronounce
[00:55:29] Heather: It's Riordan. Yeah. It's the Irish spelling, but it's pronounced Riordan.
[00:55:35] Dan: yeah, but what was the, what's it called? This one sounded really cool. Oh, I think it's ink and paint. Have you heard about this one?
[00:55:42] Jeff: I was
[00:55:42] Heather: Oh yeah.
[00:55:43] Jeff: at
[00:55:43] Dan: it's not. No, not ink and paint. There's one. That's going to be each episode is going to be a Disney animator, teaches you how to draw a Disney character, but then while they're doing that, they're going to profile the artists and show you their [00:56:00] history with the Disney company and the process of making animated films and
[00:56:03] Heather: Oh, that sounds
[00:56:04] Dan: then at the, yeah, that sounds really cool. Income painters.
[00:56:08] Jeff: too, though. That's a documentary about the women in the income paint department in the old animation
[00:56:13] Heather: excited about that one. I'm going to watch that.
[00:56:16] Dan: Yeah, that one looks good. Yeah. There's just so much good stuff. That's the stuff that I want more off.
[00:56:22] Jeff: Good
[00:56:22] Heather: absolutely. Yeah,
[00:56:25] Dan: No. Yes, but also
[00:56:26] Heather: Disney
[00:56:26] Dan: Disney history stuff, you need to work out there. There are problems with, I don't know, licensing on old music or whatever it is and start releasing more of the back catalog. Now I know I'm a nerd or so much. As far as like wonderful world of Disney, wonderful world of
[00:56:43] Jeff: Oh,
[00:56:43] Dan: mickey mouse club shows,
[00:56:47] Jeff: Are you all excited for Hocus Pocus too?
[00:56:49] Heather: No,
[00:56:51] Jeff: I know a lot of people are. People love that movie. I've never watched it. It looks
[00:56:54] Heather: it's terrible,
[00:56:56] Dan: know what though? Like you guys are. Yeah. But
[00:56:59] Jeff: love [00:57:00] it.
[00:57:00] Dan: see, is people, the agent like you guys are just a little bit old.
[00:57:05] Heather: You take that back right now.
[00:57:07] Dan: I said that came out wrong.
[00:57:09] Jeff: Yeah, no, I get it. Like
[00:57:11] Dan: Your, age missed this show. Yes. Yes.
[00:57:15] Heather: I watched that movie with my sisters back in the day and it's just so
[00:57:20] Jeff: maybe you are already 41.
[00:57:21] Heather: I was not. I'm going to smack you in the mouth.
[00:57:26] Dan: Kendra and I were like 10, when that movie came out, we were like 10. And that was like the perfect amount of like edgy,
[00:57:35] Jeff: was
[00:57:35] Dan: almost scary spooky Halloween movie, but it was still family fun. Acceptable. It was,
[00:57:42] Heather: poorly animated cat.
[00:57:47] Jeff: Yeah.
[00:57:48] Heather: get it though. I get
[00:57:49] Jeff: do love Kathleen named Jimmy, so I might like it. And actually I liked that Midler's
[00:57:54] Heather: yeah, there's called classic. The stuff that I like, that's a garbage film, but I just love it [00:58:00] because I like it. So
[00:58:01] Jeff: it was just one I missed at 23. I was like, out on my own and out in bars travelers and watching Disney films was,
[00:58:10] Dan: Yeah.
[00:58:10] Jeff: I've always loved Disney, but I saw the big stuff as it came out, but that was one that I was not going to go see.
[00:58:16] Dan: Yeah. That's
[00:58:17] Jeff: people are excited for SQL.
[00:58:19] Dan: Yeah. I am. I will definitely, we'll be watching that at our house,
[00:58:22] Jeff: I'll allow you to say.
[00:58:25] Dan: I'm also the person who was really excited that they had like Blackbeard's ghost and the computer wore tennis shoes on Disney plus. So I'm not exactly, I'm not exactly the person who's, yeah. Or a tastemaker let's say that any other highlights you guys have that stuff that's come out in the past couple of years or stuff that you're looking forward to.
[00:58:47] Jeff: Zootopia plus, cause I love that movie and now there's a series coming out.
[00:58:52] Dan: Hopefully.
[00:58:52] Heather: did love that movie.
[00:58:54] Dan: Yes,
[00:58:55] Jeff: here for it.
[00:58:57] Dan: me too. A season two of Jeff [00:59:00] Goldbloom
[00:59:00] Heather: I love
[00:59:01] Dan: explores the world or whatever it is, the world, according to Jeff
[00:59:04] Jeff: I love him. And I wanted to love that show. I watched a couple,
[00:59:07] Heather: did you watch the tiny things episodes?
[00:59:11] Jeff: No, I
[00:59:11] Dan: the new season.
[00:59:12] Jeff: with the sneakers and then I don't remember even what the second one was. And I don't know.
[00:59:17] Heather: I didn't like every single episode, but there were a lot that I read the tiny things episode. You would like, you should watch that it was in season
[00:59:24] Jeff: Goldbloom and I do love tiny things,
[00:59:26] Dan: yes. This episode was made for
[00:59:28] Heather: that really was
[00:59:29] Dan: the season two has a good one about magic also that I really enjoyed.
[00:59:33] Jeff: but mostly I'm here for the star wars and Marvel original content.
[00:59:38] Dan: Yeah.
[00:59:39] Jeff: And I love that all their
[00:59:40] Heather: of it.
[00:59:41] Jeff: are pretty quick to show up on. So if I didn't catch one in the theater, I will, I can contact. I did not go to the theater to see just fell in love with it on Disney plus.
[00:59:50] Dan: One thing that I've noticed, that's interesting to me is they announced a whole ton of those live action remakes of the animated classics. And they [01:00:00] keep on releasing info about casting forum, but you don't hear too much about them. It's like they've started to realize that people aren't
[01:00:09] Heather: I was not into those.
[01:00:11] Jeff: Let me tell you what I did love and I did not expect to as crew Ella
[01:00:16] Heather: Oh yes. That was a
[01:00:18] Dan: haven't seen that one yet.
[01:00:19] Jeff: That's such a cool different take on that character. I'd rather they do that an alternate
[01:00:24] Heather: Yes.
[01:00:25] Jeff: timeline version of characters. We love, I, liked The one with Angelina Jolie Maleficent. I loved that,
[01:00:31] Dan: Yeah, that was good
[01:00:32] Heather: I,
[01:00:33] Jeff: just remaking a shot for shot live action version of an animated movie.
It doesn't, although there have been some good ones. I enjoyed Aladdin and I really liked beauty and.
[01:00:41] Heather: Beauty and the beast.
[01:00:42] Dan: What was the one that they just knows? Oh so that was what Shafir shot. They just announced that they're going to do it risk Arista cats. Did you see the lion king? How bad those computer animated animals are? How has the Arista Casco be any
[01:00:57] Heather: No, I love the original
[01:00:59] Jeff: at least [01:01:00] with the rest of Krantz that can make it very Arista cats. they can make it super stylized and it would be cool if they did that, made it animated, but it didn't go for realism. The fact that it was so realistic looking with lion king just made it look stupid.
[01:01:15] Heather: Oh, it's
[01:01:15] Jeff: don't know. I didn't care
[01:01:16] Dan: going to go stylized. So I think it's going to look exactly like.
[01:01:20] Jeff: Yeah.
[01:01:20] Heather: not. But yeah, I think you're probably right.
[01:01:23] Jeff: I'd rather you just do a cool threat. If the fat cat or whatever should be like, ah, crazy looking and they can make it.
[01:01:30] Dan: Yeah. Or do a movie about fat cat and his band gigging around and having a
[01:01:36] Jeff: And alternate look at characters we already like is a cool idea. Like I, I thought, but man I did not expect to like Cruella nearly as much as I did,
[01:01:46] Heather: loved it. I've watched it multiple times.
[01:01:49] Jeff: the music was great. The whole look of it, it just was good.
[01:01:53] Dan: I need to put that on my watch list.
[01:01:55] Jeff: Oh, have none of y'all are seeing, has Kendra seen it?
[01:01:59] Dan: I, if she hasn't told me[01:02:00]
[01:02:00] Heather: You guys need to watch it. It's
[01:02:01] Jeff: Y'all need to watch it together. It's fantastic.
[01:02:03] Heather: I
[01:02:03] Dan: I've
[01:02:04] Heather: would like it.
[01:02:05] Dan: got to talk her into putting down her current rewatch of whatever murder shows she's watching.
[01:02:14] Jeff: what kind of murder show?
[01:02:15] Dan: Like we recent, she recently
[01:02:17] Jeff: True crime stuff.
[01:02:19] Dan: She's really big into criminal minds and CIS bones. I thought it was bones time, but apparently it's not bones time. What is she watching instead right
[01:02:27] Heather: bones is
[01:02:28] Dan: she's watching zoo. She really loves zoo,
[01:02:31] Jeff: I never heard of
[01:02:32] Dan: is where the animals, they genetically modify all the animals on the planet and they
[01:02:36] Jeff: I do remember That
[01:02:38] Heather: Oh, no.
[01:02:40] Dan: on a, she's on another rewatch of that. I can't handle too much criminal minds. It just gets way too bleak with all of the murder of women and children. I prefer bones because it's at
[01:02:50] Jeff: it was funny. They had good chemistry.
[01:02:53] Dan: It's lighthearted,
[01:02:54] Jeff: it could be worse. My dad watches JAG.
He's always referencing it.
[01:02:58] Dan: It's really no different. It's just [01:03:00] older, right?
[01:03:00] Heather: was
[01:03:01] Jeff: JAG blue bloods and things
[01:03:03] Heather: Yes. That was the one drawback of the the Antarctic cruise that I was on recently. The TV situation,
[01:03:11] Jeff: All the hits from 2004.
[01:03:13] Heather: There was all the French content, which I could watch that, but if I wanted to watch anything in English, it was all at like they just calmed the CVS catalog.
It was blue bloods and all of the NCI S and just, there's some terrible show with Joey, from friends. I can't even remember what it's called Matt LeBlanc's new show. It was terrible.
[01:03:38] Dan: Any of his shows you mean?
[01:03:39] Heather: shows?
[01:03:40] Jeff: I did, I liked the one where he was actor in the, in starring with the British people. That one
[01:03:45] Heather: Yes. That one was good. It was not that one.
[01:03:49] Jeff: It's called like last man standing
[01:03:51] Heather: That's exactly what it is. Last man standing.
Yeah.
[01:03:55] Jeff: now. That was the one with Tim. The tool, man. Yeah.
[01:03:58] Dan: Yes.
[01:03:58] Heather: you're right. I [01:04:00] don't
[01:04:00] Jeff: It's called, something similar to that. Anyway, that's not on Disney plus, and we don't need to digress.
[01:04:06] Dan: We're good at digressing though. I'm sorry. I throw us off and talking about.
[01:04:10] Heather: yeah. That's okay.
